Elf on the Shelf...

EZ E is SUPER irritated with our Elf on the Shelf. The kiddos have named him Happy- he arrived sporting a gold lamé suit straight from the age of disco, and we suspect he may have made a cameo appearance on a box of Rice Krispies at some point in the 1970's. Yesterday morning, Happy unrolled half a roll of toilet paper, left it on the floor, and blamed EZ E and Kicky. EZ E's immediate (and discontented) reaction was to write a letter of defense to Santa all by himself: "The elf blem (blame) it on us". This morning, Happy made a messy flour angel on our kitchen counter. This is our first year doing the whole Elf on the Shelf thing, but it's been pretty fun to wake up each morning and see what Happy's been up to throughout the night. It's also sparked several interesting conversations about naughty vs. nice behavior (and blackmail).  Anyone else hopping on the Elf on the Shelf bandwagon? There are a ton of ideas here and on pinterest.

That's the cutest note ever. We do the elf on the shelf but he doesn't do naughty tricks - - but maybe he should. Mostly I just move him around every night. Then constantly remind them that the elf is watching their behavior and reports back to Santa because they are friends.

I've heard of Elf on the Shelf before, and we even had such elves as decorations on our christmas tree growing up, but I never really knew what it was before reading this post. I guess I thought it was a game where you just hide the elf and the kids have to find where it went to overnight. Well, after reading this post I just saw this video online: http://www.aol.com/video/little-elf-on-your-shelf-watches-for-santa/517550677

Haha! Love that EZ wrote back to santa to defend himself!

We never did elf on the shelf when i was a kid, but since i have much younger sisters (younger than i but too old for Santa (17&10)) my mom has done Elfy for the past couple of years. He does really funny things, writes encouraging notes, and brings random presents. The annual December 1st holiday breakfast when Elfy arrives is a fun tradition.

Can't wait to see what Happy does all season. :)
