This weekend...

I am SO ready for this weekend, my peeps. On the agenda? Party-planning, costume-making and mudroom-fixing. Yes to all of that. Our baby girl turns 3 this coming week. THREE! How did that happen?! She's asked for a camera and a unicorn, so I have to figure out how to make that work. Does anyone have any kiddo camera recommendations? Have a happy weekend and I'll see you all on Monday!

Just came across your blog and love it! Really enjoyed looking at your art too...lovely! Many moons ago, I was an abstract painter, so thanks for my daily dose of art today! :)

I got a VTech camera for my nephew for Christmas last year and he LOVES it. He was 4 at the time but I think it would be fine for a 3 year old as well. It also has some games on it and it can take video as well as pictures. And you can put an SD card into it as well. I found it on Amazon but I think you can get them in lots of places. Have fun this weekend!

Go for a unicorn! My daughter turned eight this week and I felt a little melancholy for all those precious gifts she thinks are terribly childish now. She was thrilled by the big watch we gave her, but unicorns aren't on her wishlist anymore!

The Lego camera is pretty good. We have pink and they also make it in primary colors. Check ebay if you can't find it anywhere. It is indestructable and makes nicely dreamy pictures. And has digital screen for viewing.

We bought our then 4 year old a cheap point and shoot digital camera. We figured if the camera looked like a toy, she'd treat it like a toy. She treated it well and took good care of it. If you go that route, may I suggest a battery operated camera (if they still make those). Waiting for a battery to charge is B-O-R-I-N-G!

We have had terrible luck with made for kid cameras. We've gone to getting older used cameras when we find them cheaply. Our kids love that they can see the picture (one of the troubles we had with kid cameras) and if they get broken they were cheap to begin with. We have 3 for 2 kids. They are remarkably responsible with them.

I got my 3 year old a "Fisher-Price Kid-Tough See Yourself Camera" for Christmas last year and it has been great. It takes photos and video and the battery life is way better than I expected. I only change them every 3 or 4 months. Plus it can hold over 600 photos before I download them to my computer -- that's nice too!

It's survived being thrown onto our hardwood floors more times than I can count. It's also been thrown down the stairs a couple times and works the same as it always has.

Sure, I'd love the quality to be higher, but it's indestructibility is awesome. Here's an example of the photo quality: http://www.willfuljoyful.com/our-own-reality-show/

The ONLY real complaint is the sound effects it makes. My youngest LOVES deleting pictures because of the whooshing noise it makes. Nothing makes me feel like a crazy mom more than scolding a 17 months old -- "We do not delete our brother's photos. No deleting!"

Anyways. I absolutely recommend that camera :)
