Hey, not as much hay...

Whoa! We got a lot done this weekend. See that giant pile of hay? That's the result of PRH clearing out the future game room in the barn (while I changed around bedrooms...more on that later). It seriously didn't look like that much hay when it was spread all over the floor, but yikes! Here's a reminder of what it looked like before...

and here's what it looked like last night. Success! It's clean-ish and PRH only partially fell through the floor once. We have a few piles of junk to throw away and a bunch of spongy, rotten spots in the floor where the boards need to be replaced. Maybe next weekend?

One thing we didn't think about was what could've happened to that gigantic pile of hay. Hay stacks are known to spontaneously combust, particularly if the bales are wet. PRH dumped everything out a door, planning to let it sit overnight and then spread it around the field today. Luckily, our families came over for dinner last night and reminded us about the whole hay/combustion/barn fire thing. I looked out the backdoor and, like some sort of weird dream, everyone had a pitchfork in hand and they were all tossing hay over their shoulders. So, kudos to them for being awesome and preventing a potential (really dumb) barn fire. We're almost ready to order the roof materials- I've never been so excited to spend that much money.

Wow, I didn't know that about hay. That would be awful!
He did a great job cleaning it out. Does he want to come do our attic? :) Its an entire 3rd floor level filled with our junk. Someday we'd love to have a bunkroom or game room up there.

Wow, that looks like it was a lot of work! Good that you're so excited to spend that money (that's usually the bit where I freak out!) ;)

WOW! Terrific progress!! YIKES! We had a "combustion scare" while restoring our house exterior...it's certainly frightening! Glad everyone "pitched in". HA.

Looks great! Glad you didn't have a hay fire! I hope when it's done you can have a big barn party and invite me!

Wow! I seriously marvel at how much work you guys get done...

We had a similarly spontaneous "all hands on deck" moment one time, too, when we were re-decking our entire roof and our house was open like a tin can...a freak storm hit just after dark, and from out of nowhere and without being called, half a dozen neighbors showed up to scale our slippery scaffolding and help us tarp our house. People rock!
