Birthday boy...

EZ E's birthday this year was all about him making his own choices. He's getting bigger and I knew that I needed to step back and let him decide how he wanted to spend his special day. He chose this party shark as his school snack (directions here), wanted to make a funfetti cake with chocolate frosting, and chose a restaurant for dinner. His restaurant request? The place with the grapes on the roof...otherwise called The Olive Garden. Ha! We did manage a few surprises- a quick, after-school trip to Chuck E. Cheese and his own child-sized vintage desk filled with office supplies and drawing materials. He loved it!

I went a bit nuts with the Todd Oldham for Target drawing materials; they're pretty fabulous.

The day ended with some of EZ E's favorite people coming over for birthday cake. It was the most perfectly low-key fifth birthday.

Please be careful w/these crayons. They (and possibly the other products in this line, not sure) are Made In China -- I won't buy anything made there, esp. something that kids use and/or might put in their mouths. The Chinese have a horrible track record for putting contaminating elements (think melamine) in their products. Plus, who wants to support a repressive anti-human-rights regime?

Hey there:) I just wanted to let you know that the shark inspiration came on the day before we were hosting Eric's end of year track banquet at school and Id been looking for a something special for the setup. This was perfect and Eric did the carving in no time at all! Thanks for sharing.
The post about it(linked to you) will post tomorrow:)
