We spent most of the weekend outside cleaning up around the barn and working on a renovation plan for that poor building. We're going to put on a new roof within the next couple of months but, beyond that, we didn't have a concrete plan for the exterior of the barn renovation. For fun (and because I've already turned into a home renovation dork), I did a quick mock-up of our long-term visual goal for the front exterior. First, you have to promise to ignore my quickie photoshopping (ie. the missing pine tree, the mixed-up perspective of the cupola, and the almost complete lack of texture). Okay...thanks.
The barn is the first thing you see when you pull in the driveway, so we really want it to look good. We're obviously taking a lot of inspiration from Derek Sanders' barn that I've posted about 2 million times- I just can't get enough of that building. For our barn, we've decided on a charcoal grey tin roof. We'll probably paint the main part of the barn in Valspar's Ebony Field- I don't even want to guess how many gallons- and use Valspar's Fairmont Suite Clay Red for the door to the potting shed. The galvanized lights are from Barn Light Electric; the copper cupola image is from Copper Summit Inc; the large doors are similar to the doors on this barn (still trying to find original source); and those shrubs are supposed to be box evergreens (I like the color contrast/texture, but PRH doesn't). Here's a reminder of what the barn looks like today:
What do you think? Totally do-able, right? We're hoping to have this project finished within the next couple of years, but we're not going to stress about it. I liked a comment that Karen of Day In & Day Out left recently:"It is overwhelming unless you consider these three words: ten year plan.".
