vintage beads
PRH's grandma is an avid crafter and recently gave me a huge box of her old beads. Not only are the beads pretty, but I loved the way she sorted them all by color and stored them in glass cigar/cigarette containers and old medicine bottles. Besides stare at them (and marvel at her organizational skills), I officially have no idea what to do with all of these beads. What would you make?

Oh that is fun! I do love getting someones old sewing/crafting stashes at yard sales particularly for that reason. Just stockpile them until you are inspired!

Well, if you wanted to be truly obsessive with your next gift-giving expenditure, you could thread wire or ribbon with beads and tie it around the package. Maybe you could make wire shapes and thread them with beads? Or make a beaded gods-eye?

ps: Hi Abbey! I've been feeling very nostalgic about the Eric Carle and the Northampton area lately. (you probably don't remember me but I used to be one of your volunteers!)

Look at the blog site of Elsa Mora (Elsita)She has made different kind of things with it. Fun to see and maybe to get inspired.

Ah! Those are awesome. That packaging is so cool. I have no idea what I would make, but I would probably just display them until something came to me. haha!

Amazing. Wow. I saw this on a blog this morning and then read yours - noticing that great packet of seed beads.

How about adding them to small embroidery projects?

Looks like you need to take up hand work with beading (check out Elsa's work here example http://elsita.typepad.com/elsita/2011/11/my-embroidered-headband.html) or pick up a little loom and start making beaded bracelets. Too fun!

I always am surprised by the amount of pigment vintage beads seem to have. I used to do lots of jewelry making, once you have the beads you'll find plenty of uses for them!

That is so fun! I love finding old craft supplies. Sometimes, when B and I go to estate sales, we see the amazing organized craft spaces with all the old stuff. I love it!!

Once you pull out all the dividers, you make a really beautiful covered box from that Robert Burns cigar box! Check out Polymer Clay Central for ideas.
