This weekend...

christmas tree
I've never had much success taking a photo of our Christmas tree, so I was pretty excited to see step-by-step instructions on Unskinny Boppy. I have some more experimenting to do this weekend, but this is a decent first shot. Kicky's attentiveness, coupled with the fact that EZ E's sporting a Spiderman costume, makes me like it even more. Enjoy your weekend and I'll see you on Monday!

I'm definitely going to try this out, although the lights on my trees are colored. I have never been able to get a good tree photo!

Fabulous shot. I'm already looking forward to playing with Christmas tree shots since I discovered the macro setting this past year. = )

Here is another way to get that effect...
Place your kids in front of the tree. Put camera on manual. Walk right up in front of your kid and meter the light (push button halfway and slightly over expose your kid) then keep that setting and back up to wherever you want to take the photo from. Now your kids should be exposed properly and the background (tree, lights, etc) will be blown out. Using my technique, you don't have to put your film speed to 3200 (though 400 or 800 are both good.) Some cameras don't perform well at that high an ISO. Does that make sense?? You will probably still need a tripod unless your aperture goes to 1.8 or 1.4...then you will get spectacular bokeh. Hope this helps!

This photo is so beautiful! Thank you so much for mentioning me on your blog. I'm enjoying looking around all of your other posts, as well. That bullet thing is IN.SANE. YIKES! So glad y'all are ok.

I'm hosting a Show Your Glow Christmas tree link party until the end of the year and I'd love for you to come link up this photo! Merry Christmas to your family.
