Finding inspiration...

When I'm feeling uninspired and flat, I head to our local antique mall or thrift store and wander the aisles alone. Some days it's the color palette of a sweater that sparks an idea, other days it's the shape of a jar or a pile of vintage office supplies. I scooped up this package of vintage paper straws for $1 on my last meandering visit to the antique mall, and left feeling inspired and recharged. $1 well spent. The babes and I even used some of the straws to make a project that I'll share tomorrow. I'm curious, how (or where) do you find inspiration?

Pictures usually, and also fabric. Sometimes the weather, which usually means seasonal projects.

goooorgeous colors.

movies inspire me! the sets, locations, clothes, characters, music, time periods. or even the moods they create.

Can't wait to see, something about your projects is always so bright and poppy, yet so useable and displayable! Something i find difficult in my own projects.

I do the same. I love me a good wander. Color combos in houses and nature. Patterns on shirts and dresses. The shape and patina of things...I occasionally work at a local thrift and have taken to carrying a wee notebook in my vest pocket so I can write down my inspirations there for I am not allowed to make purchases on days I work.

Also, catalogs, old movies, picture books, photos on flickr..the usual suspects. Your blog is pretty inspiring...too many times I have had an idea in my wee notebook and an image in my head and I hop over here and you did it...I need to be a little less lazy, methinks. Hee-hee. Thank you for all your sharing!

The weather is one of my favorite inspirations. Nature is another. I also find inspiration in blank pages. Sometimes I simply let the light play on the page and then drawing or sketch what I see. My emotions are another inspiration I tend to use a lot.

I am always surprised at where I find inspiration. Sometimes it is a trip to the local antique/vintage store or even flea market (although they can get expensive). Sometimes I find my newest idea just exploring a new or often visited place. I love the adventure of finding new inspirations and seeing where they take me as a designer.

Children's books, memories, treasures handed down from my mom and grandma, and lots and lots of nature. If I sit down and doodle ideas, there is always at least one tree.

And sometimes, though I loathe admitting it, television.

Those photos are just luscious!

Color, photography, materials themselves, fashion...the list is long, but lovely of what inspires me!

Nice score with the vintage straws! Inspiration finds me while working in my studio, looking through design magazines (Elle Decoration UK, LivingEtc UK, Azure, Dwell), art books, design books, while raking leaves, sweeping my porch, cleaning, walking...

ooo i love the colors of those straws! i draw a lot of inspiration from online (blogs and pinterest), but also from simple necessity, since my chosen craft is sewing and my kids are always growing and the seasons are always changing! inspiration seems to come in phases, doesn't it?
