Slowing down...

home
The kiddos and I spent the whole day at home yesterday. It was as quiet as a day can be with a 2-year-old and 4-year-old. While they read books, I allowed myself to wander around the house aimlessly and think. The weight of the last few weeks has started to sink in and the quiet helped me get a handle on things again. Do you ever just wander until you've found space to land?

I don't think I wander, but I do need time to sit sometimes, and make lists and reorganize my scattered life. I always know it is time when I start having weird dreams at night.

Love all the shots throughout your home. Interesting and textural. I can see why you'd want to wander in there :)
Quiet days are necessary I believe, even with little ones. They need it too.

Your window bench is something I've always dreamed of having. Great photos. Thanks for sharing the quiet moments of your house.

You're so amazing! I see all your inspiration directly in your new house! You guys have done such a great job of moving so fast and doing it right. Totally blowing my mind!

The shot of the sewing box and the copper pig is like something out of my memories - remarkable.

I love quiet days at home.

Thanks for letting me wander your house with you. I know what you mean - sometimes I find myself doing the same thing when my mind needs a rest. Love the radiator display. = )

got a question for you - i was trying to hunt through your archives but couldn't find out whether you bought or made the teepee. if you made it, did you follow a tutorial? i'm thinking of making one myself for the exact same purpose of a cozy reading spot for my kids, but huge cuts of fabric intimidate me so i want a foolproof tutorial. :)

Thanks so much, everyone! It was a much-needed day. :)

Kristin- I found the teepee on Amazon for less than what I thought I could make it for (it's 6 ft). Rachel Denbow from Smile and Wave has an excellent tutorial though. Best of luck!

I love the photos of your daughter reading, in a TEEPEE!!! and then to be followed by a photo of all "mom's and dad's books" clearly shows you are leaving a legacy :)

Aw- thanks! It's coming along slowly, but we're enjoying it.

Beaner- those are actually their books in their room. I know...oh my! I've been buying children's books well before we ever thought of having kids, and then working at a picture book museum continued to fuel the fire. Some of those are also mine from childhood. Once a reader, always a reader. :)
