Snow day...

gnome cookies
snow day
What do we do when it won't stop snowing in upstate New York? We snag an invite to our best friends' incredible family cabin, make fancy gnome sugar cookies to bring, and then spend the afternoon sledding! Oh, and a certain mama also pulls the sled way too fast and dumps her baby girl out into the snow face first...and then, after making sure said baby is OK, said mama laughs until she almost wets her pants. I'm a rotten mother. I'm sure you can guess what part of the day was EZ E's favorite (and, no, it wasn't the homemade gnome cookies). He's rotten too, but let's change the subject. Check out that switch plate. Pretty damn clever, eh?

Those cookies take me back to the David the Gnome days of my childhood. Can I ask where you would get a cookie cutter in the shape of a gnome or were they cut freehand?

Nothing sweeter than pulling your two babies on a sled and seeing their rosy cheeks and the wonderful joy on their faces. :)

:) Thanks! I found the gnome cookie cutters at cincinnati cake and candy supplies. Here's a link to the post I wrote about that purchase- it's out of control. :)

I made the icing by mixing powdered sugar with lemon juice. Start with the p sugar in a bowl and add very tiny increments of lemon juice until you get the consistency you want. Then add food coloring- also in small increments until you get the color you want. I also separate the "plain" icing into bowls and start with the lightest color first. You can then add food coloring as needed. I applied the icing with a butter knife very carefully. :) Good luck, everyone!

First of all, those cookies are amazing.

Secondly, I would vote that the difference between a good mother and a rotten mother is that you checked to make sure she was okay before you laughed so hard you nearly wet yourself. Ergo, excellent mother!

i really like that the gnomes look like they've got their hands in their pockets, like they're just standing their casually, hanging out with each other. really great.

I once lost my baby cousin (probably was about Kicky's age at the time) off the back of a toboggan and didn't realize it until I'd gone another 30 feet or so. oops. After that she was understandably nervous to get back on the sled. :) She's a first year college student now and she's totally forgiven me.

OH my GOD those look like DAVID THE GNOME! He was my favorite!!! I need to do this, stat.

My Grandma used to make hundreds of sugar cookies every Christmas. I was thinking about making them for V-Day (so glad i'm not the only one around here who likes that day) along with some cupcakes. I may just have to sneak some heart-holding sugar cookie gnomes in there!

Sugar cookies are my absolute favorite and I would love to eat one in the shape of a gnome.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who laughs at my child's expense! She's into licking off her fingers and sometimes accidentally bites herself. (She's not 2 yet) It's all I can do not to laugh out loud while she's screaming for me to pick her up.
