The messes we make...

messy house
After seeing so many photos of our house when it's clean, I thought you all may appreciate seeing our house when it's a mess. Sometimes I find it frustrating to see only photos of clean houses on blogs, but then I say to myself, "You are seeing this place in it's best state", and the frustration passes. As far as our house goes, I will admit that I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to keeping things organized, but more days than not you'd find us up to our armpits in craft supplies, toys....

and some sort of alcohol brewing somewhere in our house (really stinky beer in our pantry in this photo)...

Yes, our house gets gross and I'm not some sort of spaz who perpetually runs behind our children with a vacuum. Our toilet is always clean though. So there you have it. Anyone else have a messy house?

I love this post. We don't have kids, but sometimes I turn around and feel like my house looks just like that. Especially, when I'm working on projects.

we are pile makers. i recently looked around and even thought we might be hoarders. har! it's always good to see that others make messes too. i might need to channel some of your organizational skills though. i loved your post a while back about how you keep up on things. i think there was a timer involved. any more tips would be welcome!! oh and...what's that cool structure holding up the fort?? looks like giant tinker toys??

Thanks for the great post! It's so nice to see other people's stuff (especially kids' toys!) strewn all over the place rather than being tidily put away (which I also totally appreciate, perhaps because it's so rare!) I think I just might post some mess pictures of my place, too. :)

You are adorable...trust me when I get going on a project, there is stuff everywhere. I can rival any toddler!

Are you kidding? My house is far from clean at any point in the day on most days. It is not a disaster and I do try to tidy up at the end of the day and put things back where they came from...but it is far from clean (although my husband actually cleans the bathroom pretty regularly for us). I think your home looks like you are living in it and enjoying it. I love the curtains as impromptu blankie tent in one of your photos.

It's so refreshing to see a blogger who is willing to show that her life isn't always so flawlessly designed all the time! I've recently found myself becoming irrationally angry at closet ads(OF COURSE you're closet will look perfectly organized if there's barely anything in it and all of your clothes are in the same color scheme... but who wears only one color?) Bravo to you for "keepin' it real"!

It's great to see other people's messes:) I'm totally with you though- I'm an organization freak! I get perturbed and distracted all day long when I know the dust bunnies are breeding and I haven't had the chance to vacuum for a few weeks. I want kids in the near future and am wondering...how am I going to handle it?

Love the pic of EZ with the yarn- he looks 'caught' hehe.

thanks for the dose of real-ness. I am an ocd cleaner but I can only imagine my house when I have kids. My 5 neices & nephews come over for an hour & its like a tsunami went through.

Bless this mess, as they say! Nice to see a post about real living. While I try to keep organized, we usually have toys, dress up clothes and cat hair everywhere.

Thank you for showing the reality of lived-in homes. Often times, or I should say primarily, bloggers show photos of their houses when they are spic and span. Lovely post!

Oh, man. Yeah. That's how my house always looks. (And I'm not even going to claim the toilet is clean). I don't want to be that humorless mom who decrees that each toy must be picked up before getting out the next one--after all, having a giant train track running all over the living room is pretty much why I had a kid in the first place. But I think I've gone too far in the other direction...

aw man, even your messes are awesome! thanks for sharing :)

YES! Thanks for showing this... I'm running out of angles in my own home which I can show without cringing... [enter fear-clean] xxx

Thank you! Our house is messy A LOT. Having a 3-yr-old, 1-yr-old and 2 pets who like to shed guarantee a mess. Sometimes it seems like we never conquer the mess... but when we do, it's heavenly!

I love that you posted this. And yes our house is like this everyday - if we have no visitors then it's like this until one arrives!

YES! THAT IS MY HOUSE! we even have that carboy of beer brewing in the corner of the kitchen!

but actually... your mess is so much prettier than my mess!

we actually turned the guest room into a "clothes that are clean, but still need to be put away after laundry day" room, after the holidays.... worse yet, things weren't being put away in time, so we just closed the door to avoid it... then, as more laundry was completed, we would dump new clean laundry over the existing.... what a fabulous time digging through piles of clean clothes, just to find matching socks.... good thing we finally put it all away yesterday.
