7 feet of wooden spoons, stashed...

spoon collection
A few people have asked what I was planning to do with my 7 feet of wooden spoons (quite possibly my best score ever!). At the end of last summer, I bought a bunch of large white planters from Target; I used one for my bird collection and decided to put the wooden spoons in another. I'm typically not a fan of stuff on countertops, so I'm not sure how I feel about them all on top of the metal cabinet that's in our kitchen. I do have to admit that it is handy when I'm cooking. Do you leave utensils on your counters or do you tuck them away? Thumbs up or down? I need to know, people. I need to know.

Btw, the cabinet came from a school surplus sale (we had it in our Buffalo apartment) and the painting is by our friend, Matt Lenke.

I leave my favorite ones and nice looking ones out on the counter but stash my plastic extra ones away. I think they look great.

I like them stashed in a drawer, next to my stove top. However, this is a blurry distinction to me -- as they are sort of accidentally functional second, and completely lovely as an arrangement first...I'd leave them out...

I think your wooden utensils look lovely in their white pot. I'd leave them out as a "sculptural" piece that also has function as well as form. Anne

OH my gosh. Best score EVER! There are so many unique ones in there! I love the big round strainer. :)

We don't have much on our counters. I usually even put the toaster away, and we use a French press rather than a coffee maker. We have space, but I just don't like stuff there, esp because crumbs find their way behind things easily. BUT about a year ago I put all of my favored cooking utensils out in a white IKEA ceramic & I do like having it out.

You would be shocked at our kitchen. We like to see just about everything. The silverware is separated into vases on the window sill. I have open shelves on either side of the sink for everyday dishes and glasses. Most cooking utensils are stashed in vintage canisters next to the stove. Cat food, bird seed and nuts are stored in glass canisters. The coffee maker and accessories are gathered onto a tray. Candy is displayed in vintage candy dishes. We like it OUT THERE!

Downsizing has left me no choice but to display many things on my counter. The only other option would be to pare down my collection of kitchen items and I just can't do it! I think yours look great.

I like clean countertops too, but I do have a small crock of my fave cooking utensils out and always a bowl of fruit. Most everything else gets put up in the cabinets or in the pantry. Love them displayed on top of the file cabinet!

I love your bouquet of spoons.

We keep our cooking utensils on the shelf above the stove in a pot that one of our friends gave us as a wedding gift. It's super convenient...plus we have very limited drawer space in our kitchen.

I definitely put everything away. Anything that sits out and isn't used constantly ends up covered in dust (and here in Northern California where we have our windows open much of the year, pollen as well). And in the kitchen you get that double yuck of greasy film on things that sit out.

We also have almost no counter space, another reason I put everything away!

LOVE. If you have the space, use for something pretty! (And in the kitchen's case, something useful, too, that makes cooking easier and smoother.)

I do keep a crock right next to the stove full of those that we use everyday. And I mean everyday. The rest are in a drawer for when they're needed. Yours are lovely. Keep them out.

Mine are in a offwhite crock I bought at a garage sale for .25.

On the counter for sure, but only if they're good looking like those wooden ones :)

I'm a fan of having utensils within arms reach. I hate having to search through drawers to find what I need. I've got two stoneware crocks and another container for my ever expanding collection.

What an amazing score! I leave mine on the counter--also in a planter I bought from Target. Love having them handy right there when I need them. PLus, I think there is something quite beautiful about wooden utensils

I definitely leave my 'bigger' utensils stashed together on the kitchen counter, it just comes in more handy.
The other stuff (peeler, grater, etc..) stay in the drawer.

I really like that you're using wooden utensils, I have a soft spot for those!

I like mine stashed in a drawer because they're not pretty! But if I had a collection like you do, I imagine I'd display them. They look very pretty all together in that white planter...and I love the metal cabinet!
