Terra cotta...

I can't remember where I found this photo (I think it was via oh joy) but I love it. We have some terra cotta tubes that were left in our back yard and I've been trying to figure out what to do with them. I think succulents may be the answer. This is another idea...

and these are just plain incredible...

The woodchuck whisperer...

After almost ten years as a couple, I discovered something new about PRH. My husband is the 'woodchuck whisperer'. Our little garden has been inundated with woodchucks this week and PRH has been having a serious grown-up meltdown. His plan was to borrow a havahart trap from my parents, catch the little veggie-eaters, and then release them on a friend's farm (far far away from our garden). In just two days he's already caught and released two! Apparently they love carrots...and they're dumb. In honor of clear evidence that PRH is much smarter than a woodchuck (not that I had any doubts), I did a little groundhog round-up. The print above is from yee haw and the images below are from ismoyo...

Killing me...

I basically love everything on postfossil. That white and wood combo is killing me.

Salvaged...

This exterior of this house by LOCUS architecture is made from salvaged billboards and translucent polycarbonate panels. Fantastic, right? You can read more about it on their website or in a book called Redux: Designs that Reveal, Recycle, and Redefine. It's a pretty interesting read.

Swimming...

We're headed out to our first swim lessons in a few minutes. Kicky and EZ E are both going and I'm hoping that they behave...you know, rather than scream and flail about in the pool. Last night EZ E very matter-of-factly told my mother, "The other day we had a conversation about my feelings and my tantrums.". We did not, to my knowledge, have any conversation about his feelings or his tantrums, but whatever. I'm happy that our three year old is at least cognizant of the fact that he has feelings and tantrums. He very well may be the king of feelings and tantrums.

Loving these planters from my house party.

This weekend...

Tomorrow is PRH's fifteenth high school reunion. He was thinking about going but decided not to...back and forth and back and forth. I've never been to my own and, to be honest, really don't want to go to his either. Do you attend (or are you planning to attend) your reunions?

Camped out...

Wouldn't these blanket cards from Gold Teeth make perfect invitations for a camping party?

Fun with twigs...

It's been so fun to see everyone's twig-wrapping projects! Keep them coming. I love it! The sticks above are from Lucie and the sticks below are from Laura (they used oriental bittersweet)...

and Miranda (who also has fabulous new glasses)...

Retreat...

How awesome is this cabin designed by olgga architects?! I wouldn't mind a few nights in a cabin like that, would you?

Tea party for the guys...

vintage toys
My parents gave EZ E and Kicky a beautiful old handmade dollhouse. EZ E loves it and has been hosting tea parties for his guys in it. Robin, Iron Man, and some creepy bearded guy were the guests at this particular party.

Twiggy...

craft project
craft project
Remember when I mentioned wrapping sticks last week? Well, it's gotten ugly. I'm some sort of stick-wrapping fiend, furiously digging through craft supplies to find more yarn to wrap around more sticks. EZ E is no longer interested...oh, wait, was he ever interested? Not so much. Anyways, someone asked for a quick tutorial, so here it is. I think the photos are pretty self-explanatory, but let me know if you have any questions. The blue part you see is just felt that I sewed onto the stick, which you can also try (easier when you have a thicker twig).

craft project
step 4: knot the end around the twig. Then trim the yarn close to the knot and tuck it into the remaining wrapped part.

Voilà!

Memo...

Some great finds over at Daily Memorandum. You can't help but appreciate the effort they clearly put into their styling, right?

Who the...

Um. Thinking about Cody Hudson's work this morning. Because I love it but also because someone left a comment (thank you, anonymous!)* that this print I posted a while back is by Cody Hudson. I can't seem to find it anywhere, but my two minute search between a morning cup of coffee and baby wake up time was too short. I'll keep searching. In the meantime, how rad are these wall decals that I found here (above) and available at Poketo. I'm also loving this print that I saw on his blog...

***UPDATE: I emailed Cody Hudson and asked him if he made this print. He didn't, so the mystery continues.***

Refresher...

rug before
Our doormat used to be really cute. It didn't take long for it to fade into a really ugly (but still-functional) mess. I didn't want to throw it away and I also didn't want to waste money on another one that would similarly fade into yuck, so I decided to refresh it a bit. I spray painted the whole thing black, let that dry, and then used tape to mask off a zig zag pattern.

rug during
I had some leftover gold paint from the picnic table and used that to spray the zig zags. The final result is a far cry from the fabulous original, but it's way better than faded and gross. Oh, and don't be worried...I'm now officially over the gold.

Stung...

EZ E had a run-in with a swarm of yellow jackets this Saturday. 8 of them, to be exact (we found at least eight stings). Unbeknownst to us, they had built a nest inside the slide on his swing set and then freaked out when he tried to use it. EZ E is doing fine now. He loved riding in the ambulance and found the ER quite interesting (it certainly was freakish). He's also convinced that he's going to grow wings, a stinger, and multiple eyes.
We have a family history of severe bee and wasp allergies so I was concerned that he would have an allergic reaction. Luckily he did not. The EMT told us that allergic reactions will often manifest themselves after the second occurrence and that a child being stung multiple times is considered a medical emergency. Here's a link for more information about bee and wasp stings. So, bees and hives are the theme this morning. The image above is from united thread and the images below are from dingbat press...
