Lunchbox...

EZ E starts preschool next week and I've been obsessively looking for lunch ideas online. another lunch is a blog dedicated to making the cutest lunches I've ever seen. So clever! My theory is that if EZ E's lunch looks good, he's is going to eat more...thus preventing some kind of wild, three-year-old freak attack at school (he's not really prone to wild freak attacks, but you never know, right?). I found a goodbyn lunchbox at HomeGoods, so we're both pretty excited about that. Adorable bento lunches, here we come! Does anyone know a good source for bento accessories or a Japanese store in the Ithaca area?

Amazon is actually pretty well stocked on bento material and 'Yum Yum bento box' is really good. All my other books are french...

Take pictures of what you "design". A far cry from the metal lunch boxes with a game and spinner on the back so you could play at lunch. I'm dating myself for sure!

If you're looking for how to make some of the food creations, this video explains how to use everyday objects (like bottle caps, straws, etc):

Those are adorable - I remember running crying to my teacher, aged five, complaining that my mum had put used teabags in my lunchbox. They turned out to be dried figs!
Here's a little recipe suitable for lunchtime treats (for all ages):

i lived in Japan for 6 years and there are tons of magazines, books and even tv shows dedicated to o-bento. but it's a slippery slope - my kids have expectations of cute lunches and i now have storage issues with the shape cutters. you will know you are in trouble when you are syringing soya sauce into a tiny 1" plastic fish container and searching for the fake grass at 6:30 am. i miss pbj sandwiches but they are banned at our school due to allergies.

Oh how lovely! I want one for my lunch! I love this Bento idea and after some googling I can't wait to try it myself. It doesn't seem to be known in the UK so I look forward to creating a craze! Thanks! x
