Lending library...

Ooooo! Look at these cute book plates from avie designs. It makes me want to put bookplates in all of our books. As a result of so many books disappearing over the years (mostly because I lent them to students), I've adopted a strict 'no lending' policy. Do you use bookplates? Do you lend out books?

A hearty "NO!" I do not loan books anymore, for the same reason you have given. I still remember all the books I trusted would be returned, and WHO borrowed them.

Somehow people hardly ever return a lended book, so I am more carefull now (I confess I am guilty too, discovered today a book I lend from my teacher six years ago :s). These are really cool!

I'm pretty much a strict non-lender too unless I don't really care about whether or not the book comes back. I've also been a victim of well intentioned borrowers - both books and CD's.

ike lending books to others, but it's true, sometimes they never give them back. After a special incident with a "friend" who was secluded for a few months and to whom i lent all my fave books and she hasn't returned them and now asks ME to pick them up (the guts of some people!!). Now I've adopted a policy of only lending books to people to whose house I go regularly. THat way I can retrieve the book if they are either not reading it or just forgot to give it back.

Ah, but it's the worst when you try to take the books back, and your friend has forgotten that they borrowed them from you! And so they let you take your books (lots of them!) but they are skeptical, and believe that you are taking their things.

But I'll still lend that friend my books, she likes them.

i adore bookplates, use them, and lend my books to a select few trustworthy friends. i received a great library kit as a gift several years ago (my friends know me so well) and it really helps. now if i lend i keep a log of who, what and when. it even allows me to insert my personal library pocket and lending card in the book so the lendee can't forget :)
