Hitchcock...

I'm planning to make a mobile for Kicky and am feeling particularly inspired by this little bird from jantze. You may remember the other birds she made that I posted a while back. Maybe I'll make a flock of birds for her...or would that be too Hitchcock?

SJP...

I was searching for images of farm house porches the other day (don't ask) and came across this gorgeous photo of a Hampton's farm house. I love love love this porch and love the fact that the house isn't painted. Come to find out it belongs to Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. Go figure, right? You can see more images of the porch along with interior shots on a blog called Hooked on Houses (originally featured in Elle Decor). I love SJP's style and apparently that also extends to her taste in homes.

I'd like to know...

Today is Monday, so that means it's time for I'd like to know, a weekly post dedicated to talented artists, designers, etc...all people I'd like to know and who I thought you may like to know of too. Today I'd like to know...Virginia Echeverria Whipple. I'm a bit obsessed with collages lately and just love these. You can see more of her work here or here. Awesome!

This weekend...

I'm looking forward to this weekend. We're headed out to dinner with PRH's parents tonight, attending a birthday party for a very special one-year-old tomorrow, and then having brunch with friends on Sunday. Too good! Hope you enjoy your weekend and I'll see you all on Monday!

Changes...

This photo from little paper bird reminds me of teaching bookmaking. Part of me wishes that I was teaching a few courses this fall, but a much larger part of me is really enjoying spending time with EZ E and preparing for baby no. 2's fall debut. I never would have imagined myself saying that a few years ago. It's funny how things change, isn't it?

Centerpiece...

Loving this great centerpiece idea from Courtney of Two Straight Lines. You can see more on her flickrstream or blog. She's quite talented!

Lucky us...

Oooooo...yet another great vintage shop on etsy! This one is called Lucky Little Dot. Lucky us!

Nursery...

This felt rug from etsy is pretty cute and would look adorable in a nursery. See the full directions here.

Collected...

I saw these photos on Desire to Inspire the other day and went on a hunt for bus rolls (I've also heard them called 'destination rolls'). This is one of those things that I don't collect, but wish I did. Wouldn't they be great souvenirs of cities you've visited or lived in? There are a bunch available here or here. BTW, the two top photos are from photographer Max Attenborough's amazing portfolio.

sf guest...

Oooo, I almost forgot to mention that I have a little guest post over on sfgirlbybay about artist Christine Buckton Tillman. You can read the post here. Thanks for inviting me, Victoria!

Rain, rain go away...

EZ E and I are totally sick of the rain. He won't play in it and it makes for a veeeerrrrryyyyyyy long day. We've already visited the library, played cars, colored, read books, eaten snacks, and gone 'swimming' in the bathtub. Oh, and now someone refuses to take a nap (that someone is definitely NOT me). Any ideas for fun rainy day projects to do with a two year old?

Numbered...

A few doors from Buffalo this fine morning (click to make larger). I like the idea of the house number being etched on the glass of the front door and it seems like it would be an easy DIY project. I'm not sure about the gold, but it's always worth a try. Has anyone ever tried etching glass?

Wood...

I'm not normally a fan of dark woodwork, but our apartment in Buffalo (above) primarily had dark wood and I ended up loving it. I was going through my 'home inspiration' files on our computer and almost all of the photos I've gathered are of homes with painted white woodwork though. Here are the only two images I saved (both from Design*Sponge) with dark woodwork. I especially love the image directly below.

Which do you prefer...dark or light? Have you seen any photos of houses with dark wood work that you like?

In the bag...

I caught a glimpse of someone holding a ratty bag in the grocery store yesterday and quickly realized that it was me! I have a TON of bags, but I think I need one that hides yuck a bit better. What do you think of this one from PloylyMingzyBb? I think I need longer straps, but otherwise...oooo la la.

Framed...

Check out this super cute ring by yellowgoat.

Prego portrait...

Kicky is due in 59 days and I don't think we have a single photo of prego-Abbey-round 2 (the final round). This photo by Jami Saunders (aka Jami+Pictures=Love) makes me want to do a little photo shoot before baby #2 makes her debut. I probably won't rock a bare belly, but we do need at least one photo for Kicky's baby book. Speaking of baby books...does anyone have one that they'd recommend? We chose this one for EZ E but I wanted something a bit different for our little miss. I wish I had the energy to make one.

Studio shot...

How awesome is this studio shot from The Mountain Label (aka Christopher Bettig)? If you haven't seen his sneak peek on Design*Sponge you should check it out.

PSA...

I know I've said it before, but PRH and I love Buffalo-based Hero Design Studio. Beth and Mark are super talented artists and totally help make Buffalo the great town it is. This weekend I was floored when I read this post on their blog (here's part of it below):

Local publication, Artvoice, stole original artwork that we created for the band Iron & Wine and altered it VERY slightly for a full page back cover ad, advertising their publication and their upcoming "Fall Arts" Issue. They even used our color scheme and textures. All of the major elements of the full page ad were stolen directly from our poster and used without our knowledge or permission!

You may remember this post that I wrote just a couple of weeks ago about a grad student ripping off an artist's work. I honestly can't believe how often I've been hearing about this sort of stuff lately (it even happened to me a couple of weeks ago) and I think it's really important to help spread the news. Any questions about copyright? Take a look here or
here. Oh, and while you're out and about be sure to take a look at Hero's website and blog.

I'd like to know...

Today is Monday, so that means it's time for I'd like to know, a weekly post dedicated to talented artists, designers, etc...all people I'd like to know and who I thought you may like to know of too. Today I'd like to know...Francisca Pageo (aka miss paq). I especially love these collages. You can see more of her work on her flickrstream or blog. Happy Monday!

This weekend...

I wish that we were just sitting on a patio like this all weekend, but we're not...instead we have to run around like lunatics. Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Bonus round...

Remember these? Well, now EZ E has decided to put them in our shop. He's quite indecisive for a two year old. :)

Bright...

I just love this photo from Tal Bright. Isn't that wall great?

Score...

How'd you like to see something like this on the curb? What a score!

Inspiring ladies...

The always-inspiring Lori of automatism invited me to be part of her snapshot series. My post will be up today, so be sure to head over and take a look. I also completely forgot to mention that the equally-inspiring Jan of poppytalk invited me to be part of poppytalk's road trip series. You can check out my post right here. Thanks, Jan and Lori!!!

Getting ready...

The month of August always make me feel like I need to get organized. I think it's because I've spent that past ten years getting ready for a new semester. :) These industrial bins from Old Crow Farm are totally calling my name. If you need more inspiration, Victoria of sfgirlbybay just wrote a great post called organization 101.

Collected...

PRH and I used to have a pile of vintage keys that I finally unloaded because I just couldn't think of anything to do with them. I wish I would have seen this photo* before I got rid of them. This collection belongs to Llubav of Hable Construction. I'm kicking myself.

Hipster in the making...

I couldn't resist sharing this funny photo of EZ E. We were at my parents house and he was wearing my dad's safety glasses. He told me this morning that his baby sister is planning to bring 'real cars and scissors' with her when she's born. Apparently she told him that yesterday...from the womb.

Big apple...

I've had this photo that I found via automatism on my desktop forever. Isn't that giant apple fabulous?
