Vintage toys...

I treated myself to a little thrift shopping today and found an awesome vintage fisher price stove for a dollar. I'm one of those dorky moms who loves finding toys for EZ E that I played with as a little kid. Luckily he seemed pretty impressed with his "new" stove. If you're looking for vintage toys, Etsy has a pretty amazing assortment. Scandinavian cats...?! Awesome. Here are some more...

wooden people...

celluloid animals...

paper doll (how rad are those outfits?!)...

miniature table and chairs...

Home again, home again...

We're back from our mini break and are getting back into the swing of things. EZ E fell asleep super early tonight and PRH and I are super enjoying the quiet time. :) While perusing internet-land, I came across these lovely photos from sweet sweet life on flickr. Talk about an eye for display...aren't these photos lovely?! So bright and cheerful on a dreary Buffalo day. To see more take a look here or at her blog. She has a shop too! I'm thinking a lot about how things are displayed lately and will tell you why later this week. See you tomorrow!

Skipping...

...for joy because I finished my thesis paper today (HOORAY!!!) and skipping Thursday's usual Collected post in order to share images from my thesis exhibition. I need to go back and take better shots (these were taken on the quick without a tripod), but I think you'll all get the idea. We're headed out of town for the weekend, so I'll catch you all on Monday! Oh, btw...the exhibition is open for two more days: Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th both from 1 to 4 pm. Location again: 1716 Main Street, Buffalo, NY.

Plarn it all...

Take a look at these beautiful bags made by our lovely friend Cara Taylor. Cara's explanation is best: "All handbags and accessories are made from recycled plastic grocery bags; the bags are cut up, made into yarn (some people call it plarn) and crocheted. Each bag is unique and durable for everyday use." We have one that she made for us a few years ago and I still use it all of the time. My favorite use for it is at the beach...wet bathing suits and sandy towels are no match for a Cara Taylor original. :) Happy Earth Day, folks! See you tomorrow.

Different beast...

Photos of the thesis show are coming soon, I promise. I've spent the entire day struggling to finish the written part of my thesis (20 pages and counting). Writing blog posts is one thing, but writing a thesis paper...quite a different beast, a beast I really don't like. The one part I'm actually enjoying is writing about my reference artists, including Cody Hudson. When we were in Chicago recently we happened upon an exhibition of his (amazing) and even saw him in person (I'm a dork). If you'd like to learn more, take a look at this interview. Love, love his work. Awesome, right?!

I'd like to know...

Wow! It feels like I've been gone for a long time. I'm happy to report that I survived my thesis opening. It was a great party...we had tons of visitors and all seemed to have a really good time. Special thanks to everyone who could make it! Now it's back to business as usual. Today I'd like to know...Annalise Rees. I saw her work on pinkshirts and carwrecks and had to find out more. You can read more about her work here. See you tomorrow!

THIS weekend...

Just checking in to say hello and let you know that things are coming along well for my thesis show this weekend. I'm almost finished with installation and have been spending a lot of time wondering how the hell I could almost be done. I've surprised myself with my preparedness this time around. Sounds pleasant, but it's really just freaking me out. Here's a little look at some of the zines/books that will be in the exhibition. Oh, and here are the details:

You are all very cordially invited to...
1716 Main Street, Buffalo, NY, 14209
An exhibition of recent work by Abbey Hendrickson, Shelby Baron + Ryan Legassicke
Opening Reception Saturday April 18, 7-10 pm
Hope to see you there!

Some bunny...

Happy weekend, everyone! Lovely drawing by fricktoria (aka Allyson Mellberg).

Collected...

These hysterically weird images are from book called Snuggles that is part of EZ E's collection. He has a considerable picture book collection, due in part to my former position at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Snuggles has to be one of the strangest little books I've seen in a while. Cats wearing clothing and doing tasks...hmmmmmm. Very strange indeed.

Hand-written dream...

I saw a funny image by Anna Melcon Bond on the Chronicle Books Blog (which I love almost as much as their books) and had to find out more about her work. Aren't these pieces fabulous?! If I had a website, which I do not and which I am working on, I would want it to have hand-written type. My website would probably never happen if I go that route, but a girl can dream, right?
Oh, and just as an FYI in advance...next week I'll be trying to tie up loose ends for my thesis show, so posting will be light. Thanks! xo

Catching up...

Sorry for my absence. Our little guy has been sick. As you all probably know, daycare is germ-central. He's feeling much better and is back in toddler action though...fast, fast, fast. This is my plan for his costume this year (from Martha Stewart, of course). If I get started on it today, it'll be ready for Halloween. :)

Collected...

How great is this piece by artist Greta Pratt?! It's called Nine Lincolns and is a photo of nine Abe Lincoln impersonators who are part of a group called the Association of Lincoln Presenters. Take a look at her website for more info. Love it!

Creative...

You all know that I love clipboards. Check out this fabulous photo above from somthings hiding in here. If you haven't seen their house before, you need to run and check it out. It's SO creative and fun! The clipboards are just the beginning. :)
