Vacation hangover...

We're finally getting settled back in after our trip to Chicago for the printmaking conference. I saw a lot of old friends and met some interesting new folks. Here are a few pieces from the conference that I loved. I have no idea who made them because I couldn't find any labels (please let me know if you know). The top piece is by Aristotle Georgiades; middle piece by Imin Yeh; and the bottom piece is from the Vitamin DD girl on girl collaboration (Jess Wilson, Erin Lee Jones, Tara Mathison, Kassie Teng and Jenny San Martin)*. Now my focus is shifting back to my thesis show, which happens in a few short weeks...aaaggggghhhhhh!

*Special thanks to John Hitchcock for sending a list of the artists names.

I'd like to know...

Today is Monday, so that means we're back from Chicago* and it's time for I'd like to know, a weekly post dedicated to talented artists, designers, etc...all people I'd like to know and who I thought you may like to know of too. Today I'd like to know...Sean Morrissey. We saw his work at the conference this weekend and were blown away. Some of these were done for his undergraduate bfa show! Overall I was more impressed with the undergrad work at the conference than anything else. It's always exciting to walk into a room filled with young talent and Sean Morrissey is clearly no exception to that rule. See more of his work here.

*on a side note: Myra, sorry we missed you! xo, A*

Collected...

We went to THE BEST bookstore ever today...Quimby's. Some of you may remember me mentioning my serious obsession with zines. Well, this place was the ultimate zine-lovers store. Art books galore! EZ E was conveniently taking a nap for the whole time, which made our visit that much more pleasurable...and expensive. Here are a few impressive zine collections from moirabot (above) and kate*. Want to learn more about zines? Take a look here. Want to start a collection of your own? Take a look at Quimby's or here.

Happy and windy...

We're on our way to Chicago for a printmaking conference. Hooray! This image by one good bumblebee made me happy...just like the windy city.

Envy...

Today I'm loving these images by photographer Alissa Hunsaker. I originally saw her work via design*sponge and was reminded of it again on the style files. We had to run errands today and stopped into Abercrombie (don't ask me why) and they had all kinds of awesome rugs on the floor, all quite similar to the rug below. I have rug envy...and photo-skills envy.

Today is Monday, so that means it's time for I'd like to know, a weekly post dedicated to talented artists, designers, etc...all people I'd like to know and who I thought you may like to know of too. Today I'd like to know...Anna Betts. I saw her work on Jess Gonacha's blog (one of my faves) and had to see more. There's just something refreshingly simple and clean about these collages. You can see more at Anna's shop here and blog here.

The event will be held at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Porter Hall, located at 453 Porter Avenue in Buffalo, NY. Tons of books, zines + workshops...a perfect day! Hope to see you there!

Tangible...

My always thoughtful husband bought a book for me that I've been really pining away after. It's called Tangible and it's AMAZING! I particularly liked Lauren Clay's work. Look at what this girl can do with cut paper! So awesome. See more here.

I have a TON going on this week (month, year...aaahhhhhh), so I'm just posting complete thesis randomness today. I think I mentioned before that I'm working on a book and these are a few pages. I'll let you know soon when it'll be released. See you later today.

One guy...

A few weeks ago a lovely A.O. reader passed along a great site called Letman. It's full of awesome projects and I thought you all would love it too. It's all one guy...making awesome work. Check it out here. Thanks, Molly Cathleen!

I'd like to know...

Today is Monday, so that means it's time for I'd like to know, a weekly post dedicated to talented artists, designers, etc...all people I'd like to know and who I thought you may like to know of too. Today I'd like to know...Jason Rosenberg. I saw his work on dear ada a little while back and was immediately attacted to it's ephemeral quality. I wouldn't be able to live with tape in my own work, but it seems to be working just fine here. See more here. Happy Monday!
