Silly for the Wassily...
My best friend, Emily, scored a few of these awesome Wassily chairs from a co-worker a little while back and she offered one to us! Here's the write-up from Design Within Reach: "Believed to be the first bent tubular steel chair design, the Wassily Chair distills the traditional club chair to a series of strong, spare lines, executed with dynamic material counterpoint. The gleaming chrome-finished tubular steel frame-inspired by the graceful, curving handlebars of the Adler bicycle-is seamless in its assemblage. Thick cowhide leather slings create the designs seating surfaces, which maintain their crisp tautness for decades. Named for Wassily Kandinksy, the father of abstract painting and a colleague of Breuers at the Bauhaus, the Wassily Chair is a symbol of the industrial heroism and engineering invention of the early 20th century.". Here's my commentary: hooray for Marcel Breuer!!!
I'm very excited to move into the new house with our two fabulous new chairs and fabulous new baby. We're visiting our families in New York for two weeks and then we're headed to Buffalo...baby, chairs, and all.
